Medication safety is a critical risk management topic, as errors may occur at multiple junctures during a patient’s course of treatment. This article is designed to increase awareness and provide health care providers ways to prevent medication errors, promote patient safety, and implement effective risk management practices regarding medication and patient safety.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
discuss medication error prevention strategies;
describe how to reduce risks associates with compounding medications;
define complementary and alternative medications; and
discuss the importance of medication safety protocols.
