Review patient presentation, physician action, allegations and risk management considerations for anesthesiology cases.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this educational activity, the reader should be able to:

discuss common causes of medical liability claims in anesthesia;
recognize strategies to improve patient safety, avoid medical liability claims, and enhance defensibility in the event of a lawsuit; and
identify how communication lapses between staff, physicians, and patients may jeopardize optimal anesthesia care; and
explain how good documentation techniques can help prevent or defend malpractice claims.
