The closed claim studies found in this publication are based on actual malpractice claims from Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT). These cases illustrate how action or inaction on the part of physicians led to allegations of professional liability, and how risk management techniques may have either prevented the outcome or increased the physician’s defensibility. The ultimate goal in publishing this book is to help physicians practice safe medicine.
Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this educational activity, the reader should be able to:
recognize practical strategies to avoid litigation and enhance defensibility in the event of a lawsuit;
discuss issues associated with allegations of improper performance;
identify tactics to avoid medication errors; and
explain how good documentation techniques can help prevent malpractice claims.
