This activity explores the topic of suicide, particularly risk management considerations and legal implications for physicians and health care providers treating potentially suicidal patients. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
describe national statistics on suicide;
identify risk factors for suicide;
list screening techniques for patients who may have suicidal ideation;
create a safety plan with a suicidal patient; and
discuss the importance of documentation when treating suicidal patients.
